This song is about "letting go." There comes a time in our lives when we must move into the future, allowing fond memories of the past to simply fall away—accepting that they are gone and will not return. This is especially true with loved ones, where we long for the way things used to be and relationships that we enjoyed so much. Children grow up and must be allowed to follow their own paths. Tears often provide a clue as to the degree of our longings. When we are overcome with tears of sorrow, we must ask ourselves, "why do I cry." Truly letting go can turn that sadness into tears of joy, and we all suddenly become more joyful, free—full of gratitude rather than sorrow.
