about

We need a certain level of order in our lives to simply function. It's both interesting and amusing to note that everyone seems to have a different definition of what they consider “order.” In writing the song, we decided to use a cluttered room as the metaphor.

Not only is order a physical issue where we become bothered with things strewn about, but the clarity or disorder is also reflected in our minds. For us, the physical and mental go hand in hand and it's hard to have one without the other. Order around us helps produce the space we need to create a clear vision for the future. Likewise, a clear vision with a focused mind prompts us to organize our physical surroundings as well.

lyrics

Every morning is just the same
Rumpled sheets where I have lain
Corners kicked out to let me move
Edges beg to be smooth
Where to begin, tell me
Where to begin

Pillows scattered around the floor
Worn clothes draped on every door
Blankets twisted into a heap
Where on earth did I sleep
Where to begin

To make my bed
Because it's such a mess
Then I'll work on all the clutter inside my head
Unruffle the wrinkles until my mind's made up

Erase some random thoughts
Sweep away the cobwebs
Then sort out bits of chaos
Putting order where it hasn't been
By tying up some loose ends
That have raveled free
I can straighten knots and tangles

So it's time for me to make my bed
After that I can clear my head
Clutter no longer strewn about
Edges finally smoothed out
Time to begin

To make my bed
Because it's such a mess
Then I'll work on all the chaos inside my head
Unruffle the wrinkles until my mind's made up
I have had enough of madness and the mess
I will not rest until my mind's made up
