This song was written at a time when we had just started the web site and were trying our best to finish the details and get it “up and running” as we had imagined for so long. Life got a bit frantic and frustrating, as we tried to resolve issues that seemed unreasonably resistant.

We remembered a time in the early days of our journey, when we shared our faltering plans and ideas with Emerson’s Dad. As Em spoke, he became quite agitated and frustrated with how slow things were going. Finally, his Dad took both of Em’s arms in his hands and said in a calm tone, “Just relax.” It was an unforgettable moment that brought both of us back down to earth.

In writing the song, we decided to broaden the metaphor of “parental advice” to a story capturing similar memories of our own childhoods. We could each remember times when we were young, as our parents told us in a clear and stern parental voice to “settle down.” Of course, this happened when we seemed to be getting overly excited, anxious or out of control. And, of course, we laughed as we remembered that we had done the same thing with our own children.

This story definitely helped us move through that temporary period of frustration, as that age-old message returned to us at the perfect time. A little song and story here and there can go a long way toward making life roll a little easier.
