It was one of those lucky days when we met the artist Joan Fullerton. Lunch at Lamole in Chianti was our first encounter with her. We seemed to share common interests and so we kept in touch over the following months. At the time, she was living and painting in Taos, New Mexico and selling much of her beautiful creations on her website. While looking through her site one day, we found a piece of art that really spoke to where we were at the time on our own journey. We decided to buy it and made the necessary arrangements.

The painting is called "Measuring a Life," and on our next trip to Italy, we placed it at the heart of our beloved studio, over the fireplace. It was so inspiring to have her art in our creative space, that our conversation generated a song soon after. We began wondering about how we gauge our own lives and contributions to the world. It was great to relate to Joan in that special way and it cemented a relationship to last a lifetime—perhaps one of the ways that we have come to measure our own lives.
